F.A.Q

I didn't have a 3.7+ GPA for my first semester, but now my cumulative GPA is over 3.7, can I still join?
Unfortunately, ALD is an honor society to recognize excellence among freshmen in their first semester. We only induct members based on their GPA for their first semester. But, congratulations on a successful academic career!

I think there may have been a mistake because I meet the qualifications but was not invited to join...
If you have read over the membership section of this site and feel that you should have been invited, please contact any of the officers or email ald@stuaf.umass.edu. In the past, there have been students who were not contacted initially, and we offered them membership once they had brought it to our attention. This year, we plan to be proactive on this front and avoid any incidents where qualified students don't get the recognition they deserve.

How often will ALD have events?
The officers generally host a chapter meeting at least once a month to brainstorm ideas with membership and to present on current plans, attendance to these meetings is both encouraged and appreciated. We also hope to have 2 ALD events each month, usually on Saturdays, so plan ahead to be on campus if you are interested in participating.

How do I become an officer in ALD?
Beginning with the class of 2011, officers will be elected during the year as opposed to before induction. We feel that this will allow students to distinguish themselves through participation on committees and at events, giving the current officers more evidence of potential beyond a resume and interview when selecting the new officers.
