Administrative Assistant:

            Work Study position available for an administrative assistant for approximately 5-8hrs for $10/hr. The duties to include light clerical work, filing, on-campus errands, retrieval from library, typing, and paperwork; knowledge of MS Word, & Excel, photocopying and scanning. Japanese Language ability is a must. The applicant must be able to use a Japanese dictionary to look up kanji, read, and file article titles in hiragana a ka sat a ha order. Also to use a word processor to type4 bibliographic entries in both Romaji and Japanese. References are required for this position. Office Assistant – Needed:

            Looking for a work-study student for the remainder of the fall semester for general clerical work. Security Monitor (Residence Hall Security):

            Residence Hall Security Monitors – RHS is seeking dynamic students to work as Security Monitors. Incumbents in this position provide security at all 45 Residence Halls on campus by confirming resident’s identification and registering their guests. Monitors are also responsible for reporting safety concerns, assisting Residence Life staff in enforcing Housing & University policies, and notifying emergency services as needed. No previous security experience is necessary; however, we are seeking energetic, outgoing people who enjoy working in a dynamic environment working with people. This is a not a spectator position! Applicants must be students at UMass-Amherst campus, be in good academic standing; have a clean criminal and judicial records and commit to working at least three weekend shifts per month (until3AM) plus on weekday shift per week. Most monitors average 15-25hrs per week. This is a high competitive position with excellent starting pay of $8.50/hr; opportunity for advancement, as well as semi-annual reviews for performance based on financial incentives.

Web Design Assistant – Needed:

            We are looking for a student assistant for web redesign project. Student will follow directions to format web pages using Dreamweaver, incorporating both code and visual requirements.             UMass Safe, a traffic safety research program; within the Transportation Engineering department is looking to hire immediately a qualified undergraduate student with experience (personal or professional) in developing a Drupal website. Camcorder Operator:

          The Linguistics Department will be employing several students to record classes during the spring semester 2010. You must be available at either or both of these class times. M-W 1:25-2:15pm; M-W-F 11:15am-12:05pm. Reliability absolutely essential. References will be requested from the finalists. Position pays $12 – $15/hr, for 3-7hrs/week; familiarity with tripod-mounted camcorder, basic sound equipment, and digital video formats.

Student Assistant(s) for Residence Life – Needed:

            We are looking to hire student assistant(s) to work with the Assistant Director of Residence Life. The General duties are as follows: 1) Have a general understanding of Res Life including terminology. Know resources available so you are able to find the information you need. 2) Work with the Assistant to the Assistant Director of Residence Life on specific projects, copying and filing confidential information, and maintaining excel spreadsheets, making folders, labels, etc. 3) Demonstrate quality customer service and a positive attitude towards those who utilize the Residence Life office/services. Web Development & Marketing Assistant:

            The Dean’s Office in the College of Humanities & Fine Arts is seeking to hire an office assistant to help get the College’s new website up & running. Duties to include uploading and editing content to the website, assisting with newsletter layout, and other projects designed to promote the College’s events, news, and goals. Bus Drivers – Needed for the Academic Year:

            UMass Transit Service is seeking Bus Operators. Operators will service the Five-College area, as well as several outreach areas. Applicants must be able to pass a NIDA-5 panel pre-employment drug screen and have at least three semesters remaining. As a bus driver, you will be trained to receive your Class B Commercial Drivers License, which will enable you to operate our Transit Coaches. Our bus drivers are committed to safety, efficiency, and courtesy and having fun.  Must be willing to work a minimum of 15hrs/week. Position pays $9.50/hr. A Valid driver’s license is required. Minimum of 1-yr driving in the U.S. and must be able to communicate clearly with other drivers and the public.

High School Tutors Needed at Northfield Mt. Herman School:

            This is an on-going position throughout the academic school year & summer session.

Tutors are needed at NMH Upward Bound Program. Make a difference in the lives of first generation and low-income college bound youths. Assist them with homework, test preparation, tutoring and college applications in our school programs in Greenfield, turners Falls, Springfield, or Holyoke High Schools. The program meets between 2:30pm and 5pm (exact times vary by site), Monday thru Thursday. Must have own transportation to one or more schools; Experience working in multicultural settings preferred. Alternatives to Military Service Intern:

            This work involves, in partnership with a national alliance against the militarization of youth, going into local high schools and (a) offering alternatives to military service to students and (b) exposing the reality of military recruitment and service to young people. Duties and responsibilities involve: creative organizing in developing an outreach curriculum; accompanying staff to local high schools (transportation provided) to provide outreach to alternative opportunities to military service to students; participating in and eventually providing military counter-recruitment training; familiar oneself with material offered to high school students; working closely with community members at a grassroots level in collaborative fashion; minimal clerical and logistical work. Position is for 10-20hrs/week (flexible) at $9.00/hr, no references required. We are location on a local bus route to Florence. Qualifications: strong interest in issues of social justice;. Gardner-

            Looking for a responsible and reliable student interested in maintaining and developing the organic plantings around our building. Candidate should be experienced and informed about gardening and able to work independently. Ideally, you will work with some of our students, teaching them about the plants and engaging them in the process. Plantings are not extensive at present but there is room to grow.

Position is for 2-8hrs/week, at $10/hr. references required. Knowledge of plants and practices.

Art Teacher – Needed –

            Seeking teacher to lead art workshops for teenagers 1 afternoon per week, either Tuesday or Thursday. The workshops are for 2-3hrs, plus prep time. Freestanding workshops are ideal, though short series are OK, too. Type of art taught is your choice – develop entire workshop yourself. Focus on studio work; but could occasionally lead a workshop in art history… We don’t have tons of materials, but happy to work with you getting what you need. The position pays $10/hr, for 3-6hrs/week; experience with the media you will teach. Experience teaching art with ideal but not absolutely necessary.             The Development Assistant will assist the Development Director with daily administration of development activities and learn how an advocacy organization brings in resources. The assistant will also help with a variety of office tasks that may include gift processing, acknowledgements and general support for the donor database. Position is for 6-12hrs/week at $9.00/hr, references required. The most important qualifications are being organized, detail oriented, and responsible.             *Outreach Assistant:

            The Outreach assistant’s position would help to organize build and maintain an email directory of groups and individuals; assist in developing and maintaining a media contact list and track media coverage. The intern would also analyze NPP’s media coverage and activists’’ use of NNP materials in order to better ascertain how NPP’s message is communicated and to what effect. This position is for 6-12hrs/week at $9.00/hr; references are required. This work requires someone who is organized and detailed oriented, computer and email literate, with the ability to work independently, reliable and responsible.

             *Research Assistant:

            National Priorities Project has a large online database with extensive information on federal spending and socio-economic needs. Research assistants locate and compile data to update the database, assists in the production of reports, and adds to graphs, quizzes and factoids on the website. Position is for 8-12hrs/week, at $9.00/hr; references are required. Experience required – computer skills, database experience is helpful; attention to detail a must; accuracy and persistence is essential. Knowledge of social and political issues important.

 

 

Town of Bernardston Highway Department – Assistant:

            We are looking for a work-study student to assist with the Highway Dept with mowing lawns, painting, traffic detail, and assisting at the transfer station with recycling, etc.  During the winter with snow shoveling, and sanding. The hours are flexible, some weekends needed, position pays $12/hr. Must have own transportation to Bernardston needed. This position is located approximately ½-hour from campus.
