FAQ

History

"An all-inclusive collegiate Fraternity,
Alpha Phi Omega is committed
to being the foremost student-run fraternity
in developing lifelong leaders,
instilling lasting friendships,
and fostering a lifetime of service to all people."
- National Vision Statement

Alpha Phi Omega is a co-ed national service fraternity founded on the principles of leadership, friendship, and service with chapters across the United States and in the Philippines. Comprised of over 650 chartered chapters, with approximately 325 currently active chapters, APO is the largest collegiate service organization in the nation.

The Kappa Omicron chapter at Umass Amherst was founded in 1952 and has been continuously active ever since. There are currently about 25 active members as well as many alumni in the local area.

Leadership

Alpha Phi Omega offers almost limitless possibilities for growth and development of leadership. Kappa Omicron's executive board consists of six elected positions: President, Service VP, Membership VP, Fellowship VP, Administrative VP, and Treasurer. There are other positions members can hold too, including Sergeant at Arms, Scouting Liaison, Ritual Chair, and service project chairs. Even pledges get the chance to hold leadership positions! At APO, it's not about holding a title but about helping the fraternity and helping yourself. Check out the current E-Board page for all current positions.

Fellowship

There are numerous fellowship opportunities to build friendship among the members of APO. These include bowling, games nights, potlucks, and more. Fellowships are great ways for pledges to get to know the brothers, and for brothers to relax and have fun together. Fellowship events are organized and implemented by the Fellowship Vice President. See our Fellowship page for more information.

Service

Alpha Phi Omega is the only fraternity with the main goal of service. APO has four main areas of service: campus, community, nation, fraternity. The service events are planned and executed by the Service Vice President. APO at UMass does service in many ways and events, including: helping with the Boy Scouts, helping with the special olympics, hosting blood drives, hosting 5K races, organizing Locks of Love drives, assisting in the Boston Marathon, and more! Check out the Service page for more information.
