Notes:

Following introductions we reviewed the charge to the Working Group. Some progress had been made compiling a list of ongoing projects between UMass campuses and EOEA agencies. We agreed to the following action items:

  • Complete the list of joint UMass/EOEA projects. A preliminary list was provided from UMass-Amherst and UMass-Dartmouth. Juliet will provide a list from Lowell and Rob will provide a list from Boston. The final list will provide the name, duration, title and a brief abstract for each project that deals with Biological Conservation and Ecosystem Protection. Rob, Juliet and Kevin Stokesbury will provide this information to Bill McComb by May 1.

  • A list of faculty (UMass) and staff (EOEA agencies) will be developed to illustrate the human resources available to conduct work in this area. These names should be sent to Bill McComb by May 1.

  • A list of unique and essential facilities will be developed to illustrate the infrastructure available to address issues in this area. This list should be sent to Bill McComb by May 1.

  • The above items will be emailed to all committee members prior to the next meeting scheduled for May 8.

  • Bill McComb will initiate a web site and as information comes in, these items will be posted on the web site.


The discussion then moved to selected presentations by EOEA and UMass participants who described ongoing work and implications for future projects. The following general topics were identified as project areas where additional work could be initiated to move forward with collaborative research, outreach, and
