Two views of the "SIGN"
A quick introduction to a basic linguistic issue first

                                                            View One:
                        "Unmotivated sign," I.e., an arbitrary relation between signifier and signified

Proposition: Signs form part of two systems, the system of the signifier, and the system of the signified, which co-exist without having any necessary relation.

                        "Motivated sign," I.e., an intentional relation between signifier and signified

Proposition: Signs form part of two systems, the system of the signifier, and the system of the signified, which co-exist and bear a necessary, unshakeable connection with each other.
