Shutter Speed Knobs

I'm not sure what happens to them, but one thing I get asked for is sketches of shutter speed dials.   I can't sketch worth beans, but I can do a little better with a flatbed scanner.   These are scans of the shutter speed dials on the cameras I own.

Please treat these as though they are sketches.   I did the scans with the knobs on the cameras, so the dial was a good 1/2 inch from the scanner glass.   If I didn't happen to have the camera propped up level the dial will appear to be not perfectly round.   As for size, well, you know how big it is.   If you're going to try to make a dial from one of these photos you'll need to fiddle with the size and possibly the aspect ratio to get it to fit properly.

If you've ever used the program before, you might have better luck making a dial in POV-Ray, a freeware ray-tracing program that's very math oriented and programs in a C-like language.   I made an oven knob that way once.   It's easy to work with the angles involved, including rotating text and placing index marks accurately.   What you end up with is essentially vector-based so you can scale it to the size you need for printing without loss of quality.   I've played with it a bit.
