PURPOSE OF THE WAGICS WEB SITE

The main goal of this WEB site is to facilitate the participation of women in all deliberations on the social and ethical issues raised by human genome research. This special focus should promote more attention to the concerns of women, to the special perspectives of women, and to the roles women have played and will play in developing both the science and the study of its social implications.

FIRST -- As an aid to those who wish to diversify any group that considers issues raised by human genome research, we provide the WAGICS Resource Network List, a directory of women who can be recruited.

These Women are available as:

                (A) Members of national committees or task forces
                (B) Members of regional or state committees or task forces
                (C) speakers or panelists at conferences
                (D) Speakers at seminars
                (E) Consultants
                (F) Members of planning committees for conferences
                (G) Writers of articles or position papers for
                               newsletters, magazines or professional journals
                (H) Members of research teams
                (I) Reviewers of book manuscripts
                (J) Reviewers of papers for journals

SECOND -- We include reports from the Workshop "Women and Genetics in Contemporary Society," which was funded by National Institutes of Health grant #R13 HG00793 and took place in Zanesville, Ohio, May 1996.

THIRD -- We provide a bibliography of papers on women and modern genetics: analysis by women, issues especially concerning women, or special perspectives not in the mainstream.
