Mumia's Appeal Denied by Sabo
Mumia Abu-Jamal is a radical black journalist from Philadelphia, who has been on Pennsylvania's death row since 1982, having been convicted of killing a Philadelphia police officer. Mumia has always maintained his innocence. His trial was a mockery of justice including; police coersion of witnesses, false testimony by police officers, use of Mumia's political beliefs against him, refusal by police to turn over names of over 100 witnesses interviewed to defense. The public defender, asigned by the court to Mumia's case, was incompetent and was later disbarred. Mumia himself was absent from the courtroom for much of his trial, because of pressing his demand to act as his own lawyer. The judge in the case, Albert Sabo, has the distinction of sentencing more people to death (approximately 30) than any other judge in the country, all but two of them African-American. He is also known as a `prosecuting judge' because of his bias on behalf of prosecutors in procedural matters. There were numerous irregularities in his conduct of the case.

Mumia's appeal for a new trial was denied by Judge Sabo. The appeal will now go to the Pennsylvania Supreme Court. For detailed information on Mumia's case, what to do, who to call, etc. see the SPG - Mumia Page. A rather better organised site is the the Refuse and Resist! Mumia Page
