Programming Philosophy

Undercurrents covers news stories and political perspectives usually ignored by the mainstream corporate media.   Why is the media conspicously quiet on the fact  that there are 43 million Americans without health insurance while at the same time it loudly applauds the US government's plan to increase the Pentagon's budget by 112 billion dollars over the next six years?  When was the last time you heard serious criticism of the US/UN economic sanctions on Iraq on ABC, CBS, or NBC? The mainstream media will not tell you that acording to a UN study 5,000 children are dying in Iraq every month as a direct result of the sanctions due to malnourishment and lack of basic medicines to treat diseases.  How much time has the media devoted to genetically modified foods and their danger to human health?  In spite of massive resistance to genetically modified foods in Europe, the US public has been kept in the dark because the press does not want to irritate its agribusiness advertisers.

Undercurrents presents interviews with local activists and national figures on a wide variety of topics; people who care about and work on these issues; people you will never see on Nightline or hear on NPR.

Work with Undercurrents
