Assignment
: Plan and deliver two, eight-minute lessons grounded in your unit plan.


Directions:
Demonstrate your knowledge and ability to plan and deliver effective instruction.  Implement your unit plan by planning and teaching 2, eight-minute lessons to the class.  Provide a lesson plan for each session using the structure described in class.  Deliver instruction using an active teaching model suitable for an instrumental setting (see Session 18 - 29 Class Notes).

Your lesson plan must include:

  • Context
  • Objectives
  • Assessment
  • Standards (Mass. Frameworks)
  • Concepts (defined in the objectives)
  • Materials
  • Enabling Work/Procedure (must include introduction, focus, and closure phases).
  • Differentiated Instruction
Due Date
Due beginning Monday, 10/24, as per schedule.

Schedule
Three practica are scheduled for each day.  Each person will have 8 minutes to present each of his/her lessons, followed by 5-7 minutes for discussion and peer review.  We will progress throught the order twice, once for each lesson.  To maximize our limited time, please be prepared a day ahead in case someone is missing in the order.  It is also imperative that the class begin on time and without delay.

Assessment and Grading
The overall impact of your work will be assessed and graded as part of the Instructional Plan Project using the following criteria: Application, Work Quality, Work Process (see Curriculum Planning Application Rubrics, Delivery of Instruction Rubrics, and General Assessment Rubrics).  Include the best sample of your work for the assignment and your music ed portfolio.
