BOOK REVIEW INSTRUCTIONS, JOURNAL OF POPULAR FILM & TELEVISION

1. Please indicate the following information at the beginning of your review:

  • Title of the book
  • Author's or editor's full name
  • Place of publication, publisher, and date of publication
  • Number of pages
  • Price

The JPFT follows a modified MLA style for its book reviews, including the "header" information noted above. Please use the following examples as your guide for preparing this material (note the hard return after each title):

SOME LIKED IT HOT: JAZZ WOMEN IN FILM AND TELEVISION, 1928-1959
By Kristin A. McGee. Middletown: Wesleyan UP, 2009. 316 pp. $27.95 paper.

FILMING DIFFERENCE: ACTORS, DIRECTORS, PRODUCERS AND WRITERS ON GENDER, RACE AND SEXUALITY
Ed. Daniel Bernardi. Austin: U Texas P, 2009. 414 pp. $70.00 cloth.

2. Within the text of your review, titles of books, films, and television programs should be italicized and typed in normal upper and lower case.

3. Double space all copy.

4. Your review should be around 750-1,000 words in length and should address the author's approach, method, writing style, and content, as well as the book's strengths and weaknesses as you see them. Our readers will be particularly interested in how the volume addresses the relationship between film and/or television and culture.

5. At the end of the review, include your name and any institutional affiliation.

6. Please e-mail your review to me at norden(at)comm.umass.edu. Your review should take the form of a MS Word attachment (but, please, do not submit any documents ending in ".docx"). You may also submit your review as text within the body of an e-mail message.

If you have any questions, please contact me at the e-mail address above or at 413 545-0598 (office) or 413 545-6399 (fax). Thanks for your help!
