This course explores the politics, society, and culture of Renaissance Italy. Our focus will be on the institutions that shaped life in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, the ideas that characterized art and literature, and the individuals who brought the two together and who give the Renaissance its distinctive character. Announcements

Third paper due date: The third paper is now due on Tuesday, Dec. 10. (This is a change from the syllabus.) (Added 11/26)

Final exam: The exam will be held Tuesday, December 17, 8-10 AM, in Bartlett 61. The exam will involve a few open-ended essay questions that will allow you to show what you have learned in this course. It is open-note but closed book; please leave your books at home or outside the examination room. (Added 11/26)

Rewrites: Rewrites of the papers are due by 5 PM on Thursday, Dec. 19. Bring them to my office (Herter 624) or, on Dec. 19 from 4-5 PM, to Hasbrouck Lab 134. You must include the original paper along with the rewrite. (Added 11/26)
