Thank you for visiting the website of the Sun research group in the Department of Chemical Engineering at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Our research focuses on protein engineering and synthetic biology. Specifically, we use directed evolution and rational design to engineer proteins and enzymes for improved properties. In addition, we also use directed evolution to engineer artificial genetic circuits for improved functions. Students in this lab are trained in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Molecular biology, and Mathematical Modeling. We also generate useful biocatalysts and methods for the biotech industry.
