Administrative Assistant Needed at RLRC:

            Work-study position available for Summer 2009 at RLRC located in Southwest. Office Manager Patty McGill at the Residence Life Resource Center is looking for an administrative assistant. You must possess a high level of administrative talent, as well as common sense, extremely good organizational skills, and an acute ability for accuracy. This is an office that offers resources to RAs and other student leaders as well as to senior Residence Life Staff. The atmosphere is relaxed yet professional; it is a welcoming office with a large undergraduate student staff. The RLRC staff members often enjoy working at the center because of its entertaining and friendly environment. This would be a good place for you if you enjoy meeting new people and helping residence life staff. The payrate is $9.00/hr – during the summer.

Careful Driver Needed for Van Service:

            Train Now or over the summer to be a van driver for UMass Transit Special Transportation Service in the fall. Provide transportation for students, faculty and staff with disabilities; perform related work as required. applicants must be able to pass a NIDA-5 panel pre-employment drug screen and have at least two semesters remaining. Project Assistant – Needed:

            The REU and CAITE project in the Department of Computer Science seeks an undergraduate student to assist in the day-to-day operations throughout the summer. The assistant will help with logistics, documentation and publicity as detailed: weekly event help – catering setup/breakdown, materials organization/distribution, and with photo/video. Assist with residence hall set-up for program (pre-program) and collection (post-program). Website maintenance and enhancement via Dreamweaver and Facebook. Gather and analyze demographic data for program/data entry (possibly also database development); create and process paperwork for accounting, surveys; and general office tasks as needed.             The UMass Baseball League is looking for Umpires who can Umpire home plate, or the field for an intramural like baseball league. Equipment will be provided, unless you have your own, in which case pay will be slightly higher (potentially, depending on how many games you do).  We will be playing during the week and on weekends at the Amherst Middle School baseball field. Located right off a bus route (the one that goes into town). We will play from 5:15pm-7:15pm during the week, and from 2:30pm-7pm on the weekends, (you can do as many or as few games as you want). We are able to pay home plate umpires, and potentially umpires in the field as well. We’re also looking for people who are interested in playing in the league as well.             Residence Hall Security Monitors – RHS is seeking dynamic students to work as Security Monitors. Incumbents in this position provide security at all 45 Residence Halls on campus by confirming resident’s identification and registering their guests. Monitors are also responsible for reporting safety concerns, assisting Residence Life staff in enforcing Housing & University policies, and notifying emergency services as needed. No previous security experience is necessary; however, we are seeking energetic, outgoing people who enjoy working in a dynamic environment working with people. This is a not a spectator position!             UMass Transit Service is seeking Bus Operators. Operators will service the Five-College area, as well as several outreach areas. As a bus driver, you will be trained to receive your Class B Commercial Drivers License, which will enable you to operate our Transit Coaches. Museum Assistant Needed at Porter-Phelps Huntington Historic House Museum ~

          The Porter-Phelps-Huntington Museum is an active Historic Site in Hadley, Massachusetts, which tells the story of a New England Family and their household over two centuries.

            POSITION:

                        Museum Assistant – (two (2) positions available –

            DATES:

                        May 1st through Labor Day (Sept 7th) and Sept 8th through October 20th.

            HOURS:

                        35-hours/week, May through September 1st, and 20hrs/week 1-4:30pm September thru October 20th, Sunday thru Wednesday.

            DESCRIPTION:

            The Museum Assistant’s primary responsibility will be to give daily tours of the museum and to maintain museum interiors. He/she will also assist the director with programming special events, which include a folk traditions series, colonial teas, special tours, community events and a fall series. Tasks will include writing press releases and acting as liaison with the news media, web site updating and maintenance, extensive letter writing, telephone solicitation, and visiting local businesses.  The assistant will help with on going curatorial/archival projects including accessioning and documentation of objects. In addition, the assistant will help with the care of the historic gardens and grounds including weeding, raking, and pruning.

REQUIREMENTS:

            Excellent verbal and writing skills, valid driver’s license, and preferably a car.

SKILLS:

            Computer experience including web maintenance; Dreamweaver, MS Word, MS Publisher, Lotus Approach; good typing skills.

QUALIFICATIONS:

            Experience or interest in small history museums; ability to work independently, with minimum supervision; highly motivated and self directed; excellent organizational skills; ability to work well with people.

Marketing & Web Assistant:

            Depending on need and interest, the position could entail active participation in the following areas: Helping organize alumni to support marketing effort; Manage inquires, update database and general office duties; Outreach & partnership buildings/e-linking campaign; Web research and email campaigns; Update our website and testing on different platforms/browsers; Manage weblogs and online photo galleries; Help create/implement email recruitment strategy using our file maker database. The position is for 10-15hrs/week, at approximately $9/hr, no references required. For more information contact the following person.
